How to Increase Page Rank

Page Rank though blown way out of proportion by self claimed SEO gurus is a fantastic way of judging on the amount of authority a website or page holds. Even Matt Cutts speaks about Google's Page Rank showing the authority which a website has. Now the problem with Page Rank is it has nothing to do with content, keywords, or any other aspect of SEO except for external vs. internal links. So if you work and work getting a PR of 4 or 5 or 6 yet did not take a minute to grasp the basic concepts of SEO such as keyword density, association, and other basic aspects of SEO then you will not rank well for your wanted key terms. This article will not help you rank well for keywords, but if you are one of those who like the little green bar full rather than empty then read on.

First off you must gain backlink (a hyper link on a third party website pointing towards your URL or URI). This is the base of Page Rank and drives how far the green bar will go up. Now no one knows the exact algo behind Page Rank except for the Google engineers and you can tell they are constantly changing it since it will shoot up then down, but one solid driving force that has driven the green bar up throughout the different eras of the web has been gaining backlinks and not a couple, but thousands and in some cases hundreds of thousands. When choosing where to gain backlinks there are a couple of aspects that you should be thinking about such as who is linking to the website and are they an authority within the webmaster community and the web as a whole. If for example you wanted to start acquiring a link from a blogger a couple things you could check is first if they offer do follow links, the readership (if they have 100,000 readers then they are probably an authority), and people they are linking to. If they link to really spammy sites then it is a bad idea to try and acquire links from the blog even if it looks as if it is an authority. This is because Google will assume that you are like the sites which the blogger is linking to and punish you.

When I browse through the webmaster forums people are always looking for a number. I hear how many backlinks before PR1 and how many backlinks before PR2 constantly and I am here to tell you that there is no such number only educated experienced guesses. For PR 1 you are looking at around 500-1,000 ok backlinks and PR 2 you should expect to build around 2,500-20,000 PR3 30,000-50,000 PR4 100,000 PR 5 250,000 PR 6-10 250,000-500,000 depending on the authority of the links. These numbers like I said previous are only a guess and estimated from what I have seen so are in no way to be accepted as fact, but rather an idea or fuzzy goal. You could possibly get to pr 10 through a couple hundred links if all the links were PR 10 and you had several hundred thousand pages of content. Well that is my thoughts on PR remember though SEO has ten times the effect of PR when it comes to the SERPs so take time learning about SEO rather than spending all your time building backlinks.
